Tasting Notes: A Journey Across Scotland with NUDE & Murray Anderson.

Join Murray Anderson (@thewestmount), whisky expert and talented videographer, on an exhilarating journey through the Scottish Highlands.  Visiting four of the region’s finest distilleries, Murray captures every moment behind the lens while pairing each whisky with the perfect NUDE Glass, revealing how the right glass transforms aroma, flavour, and mouthfeel.  Through stunning landscapes, masterful craftsmanship, and immersive tastings, Murray uncovers the secrets behind each dram and showcases the art of whisky like never before. We caught up with Murray to hear more about the experience. The full series is available on Instagram, where every episode brings you closer to discovering your ideal whisky and glass pairing. What do you think makes a Scottish whisky distillery so special? I am a nationalist at heart…. I am in love with Scotland’s traditions and its beauty. When you visit a Scottish whisky distillery - especially one established in the 1800s - you really feel that magic. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels special. Each distillery feels so unique as well, from the location to the ingredients and craft.  After visiting four distilleries, which whisky stood out the most to you and why? This is so hard to answer because each distillery really was so unique, had their own character and beauty… but I do have a favourite. Bunnahabhain is just special, and you need to visit the distillery to understand.. It sits on the water’s edge on the north-east of the island and has stunning views looking towards Jura. The whisky is absolutely delicious, and the staff live and breathe the brand. From start to finish, it is made with real care and love. I could talk for hours about that whisky, but I’ll leave it at that. Did any distillery’s approach to cask selection, maturation, or blending surprise you or shift your perspective on whisky-making? I did notice that Glenallachie had this real pride in their cask selection. They are totally independent, so that allows them to pick some incredible casks made from really unique wood from across the world. All of the distilleries I worked with on this project shifted my perspective even more though. They were all just so passionate and I feel this newfound love for not only the brands themselves, but Scottish single malt whisky. How did the tasting experiences differ between distilleries - from aromas and flavours to presentation and glassware? Each distillery really did have a different flavour and that was what I hoped for when creating this project. Lochlea is a newer distillery with younger whisky, so the flavours were really quite light and fruity and pairing it with Big Top was such a fun combination. Moving on to Deanston, the flavour was rich and complex, but it was the ‘waxy’ character that stood out to me. The whisky was full of natural oils and gave it this incredibly velvety texture and it worked perfectly with a simple glass like Finesse. Now, both Glenallachie and Bunnahabhain used their 12yr old whisky, both sherry-cask finished. The difference? Their location, water source and glassware choice. Bunnahabhain had this subtle salinity which balanced the rich sherry sweetness really well. When poured into the Islands glass, you really didn’t miss a single flavour note. Glenallachie on the other hand had a similar flavour profile but had this oaky’ness to it as well. They finish their whisky in 3 different barrels, one of which being virgin oak. It sounds like a whirlwind of flavour but it works so well. That oaky punch felt right in a glass with some weight and Alba really was the perfect combination.   Having compared multiple whiskies side by side, did you notice any emerging trends in style, innovation, or storytelling across the distilleries? Cask experimentation felt like a strong trend. All of the distilleries were secretly working on new releases and experimenting with new types of wood. However, each distillery really paid respect to the tradition that is Scottish whisky making and that’s what I loved. The storytelling between all 4 distilleries is so romantic and really makes you fall in love with their spirit. NUDE’s whisky collection is designed to enhance the tasting experience - which NUDE Glass is your favourite and which do you enjoy tasting from the most? If I had to base this answer on tasting experience alone, I’d go with the short Islands glass. It’s a real connoisseur's glass with a modern elegance. If you had to pick one NUDE Glass as your go-to for whisky enjoyment, which would it be and why? Oh, that’s tough. For me, Alba. I love the glass and decanter equally. I love the weight, the shape and the design as well. It’s a beautiful glass to drink neat spirits from but also works really well for stirred cocktails too. What is your favourite time of day or moment for sitting down and enjoying a whisky? I am a sucker for celebrating life’s special moments with good friends, a neat pour and a cigar. The cigar is optional of course, but sharing a dram of whisky with a loved one and chatting into the early hours sounds like my idea of heaven.

Home Bar Setup Ideas

Going out for drinks is a great idea at times. But, entertaining at home can be equally enjoyable, especially if you have a home bar stocked with all the right accessories. There is of course a knack for making the perfect Manhattan or pouring the best Negroni. However, you don’t need to be a mixologist to pick up the skills to serve a great drink. Simply creating a bar setup at home and having the right home bar essentials, like quality glassware and liquor, should suffice. Here are some home bar ideas and a décor inspiration to help you create the perfect entertaining space in the heart of your home.   What Do I Need to Start a Home Bar?   It's a common misconception that larger is always better when it comes to home bar design. However, in reality, many of the most stylish bar ideas for home tend to be more subtle. But actually many of the most stylish bar ideas for home are far more subtle. Consider the sophisticated design of high-end hotel wet bars, which are often highlighted as a feature of the hotel room or suite. These spaces are specifically designed to provide the perfect place to prepare sunset drinks or after-dinner aperitifs. Wet bars share similarities with modern home bar designs. They tend to be compact and are often on top of an armoire, side table or cabinet. While some include sinks, many simply feature displays of beautiful decanters, cocktail glasses, wine coolers, or a mini fridge, adding an air of class and sophistication to the room. You have learned that a small home bar can add 'an air of refinement and taste to a space. Now, here's a rundown of what the best mini bar for home should contain: Cocktail Glasses No bar for home would be complete without a couple of chic, tall-stemmed coupe or martini glasses. Cocktail glasses have been, are, and will continue to be used for years to come... NUDE cocktail glasses are ideal for both cocktails and mocktails. The best bar set for home includes a full range of quality glassware, including whisky glasses, wine glasses, water glasses, and high-ball glasses for serving drinks.  Wine Cooler Champagne, prosecco, and crisp white wines all taste better chilled, making a wine cooler an essential addition to a well-stocked home bar. The best contemporary wine coolers are of timeless design, such as NUDE Glass wine coolers. They are made from clear crystalline glass and the perfect size to hold enough ice to chill a bottle to the ideal temperature.   Shaker Let your inner mixologist add a cocktail shaker to your home bar design. Shakers have come a long way from the familiar silver retro designs. NUDE Hepburn shaker crafted from lead-free crystal, and complete with a metal top featuring a highly polished copper finish, adding a contemporary twist to this classic home barware. Decanters & Carafes If one drinkware item is to make a statement a statement in a home bar design, it is a beautiful decanter or carafe, perhaps with matching glasses. NUDE decanters are formed using lead-free crystal and come in vintage or contemporary designs. These graceful decanters and carafes are timeless and suggest taste and elegance.   Stirrer & Mixing Glass Whether creating a professional or pull-up bar for home, a practical stirrer is a vital accessory. While it may be tempting to use a long-handled spoon, choosing a stylish mixing glass such as Hepburn Mixing Glass with Metal Stirrer can impress your guests. Ice Bucket  Wine coolers and ice buckets are prone to be known as being interchangeable. However, the wine cooler, besides sounding more attractive, is designed to fit wine or champagne bottles, whereas an ice bucket is made to be larger with handles. The term “wine cooler” sounds far more attractive. But it is designed to fit wine or champagne bottles, whereas an ice bucket is made to be larger with handles. Refer to the beautiful NUDE Hemingway Ice Bucket for reference. Cutting Board A cutting board is essential for preparing fruit segments, lemon wedges, sprigs of mint, rosemary, and citrus peel twists to adorn the top of drinks. You need to make sure to include serveware for prepared fruits and cocktail essentials in your home bar.   Mini Fridge (Minibar) To create the ultimate bar at home, the addition of a mini fridge to store ice and spirits also chilling wine is an excellent idea. A Bar To add personality to your bar setup for home, a designated bar or serving station can do the trick. Top it with natural stone or wood and add a couple of bar stools. Present some fine NUDE glassware and home bar accessories to create the perfect space for entertainment. How Much Does It Cost to Set Up a Home Bar?   The cost of any home design project will always vary. Each home is unique. The cost of setting up your home bar decorations depends on your home bar concept, your choice of home bar accessories, and the type of glassware you stock your bar with. How Do You Build a Home Bar from Scratch?   Depending on your preference, space, and budget, a bar setup can be as large or as small as you wish. The idea of a home bar first became popular in 1940s America, when entertaining at home became popular. A minibar for home was seen as the epitome of sophistication and the perfect space to have friends over to Jazz music. Over time, elegant minibar carts, dedicated drinks cabinets, bar trolleys, and chic drinks tables have become popular and adorn the sitting rooms of many homes. Today, many newly built properties come with home bars or drink stations. Alternatively, you can easily create one from scratch using a dresser, side table, or attractive cabinet. What makes the space work is the home bar accessories, glassware and drinks you choose to display.     How Do I Set Up a Bar at Home for a Party?   Creating the right mood for guests is vital if you want to throw a party. First, you need to determine the theme of your gathering. Once you have a theme in mind, the rest is up to your imagination and creativity. Whether it's a party to celebrate a birthday, a special occasion, or simply a girl's night, inviting friends and family over for the evening, setting the right tone can make all the difference. Work with the theme for example, if it is a Christmas party, stock festive drinks like brandy, whisky, and Baileys, and use complimenting glassware. If it is a birthday, brighten the occasion with fun cocktails served in martini glasses, or chill some bubbly in an ice-filled wine cooler before your guests arrive. What Accessories Do I Need in My Home Bar?   You have already created all the home bar essentials to get started, but to elevate the concept, you can focus on some little details. You can add some seasonal flowers in a stylish vase, create warmth and atmosphere by adding candles, and some chic ashtrays... You can even give your home bar a name and get a sign made to add extra charm. If you're setting up a professional or home bar and seeking inspiration, explore the NUDE Glass drinkware collections for innovative, timeless designs that reimagine classic barware, offering premium quality pieces perfect for both use and display for years to come.

From the famous martini glass and adaptable highball glass to the classy coupe and convenient rocks glass… Each serves a specific role in improving the drinking experience. But the first step toward mastering mixology is learning the names of the different types of cocktail glasses! Here's a quick review of the essential cocktail glass types: Highball Glass (Tall Straight Glass) Double Old-Fashioned Glass Lowball Glass Coupe Glass Martini Glass Margarita Glass and more!  Most Popular Cocktail Glass Types and Features   Different types of cocktail glasses are characterized by their peculiarities that improve the taste. However, investing in proper cocktail glasses affects the taste and look of a cocktail. It also shows the value that the owner gives to the work. Here is the list of the most popular cocktail glass types and features:  Highball Glass: Suitable for rock cocktails. Preserves drink temperature and carbonation. Multipurpose, employed in a wide array of mixed drinks. Lowball Glass (Single Old Fashioned Glass): Chilled cocktails with a high ice content are designed for parties. It is ideal for mixed drinks with a tiny bit of ice.  Short and wide, with a solid bottom.  Suitable for mixing, stirring, and making substantial ice cubes. What Is the Difference Between Old Fashioned Glass and Double Old Fashioned Glass?   The significant difference between the old fashioned and double old fashioned have different capacity. Old fashioned is smaller and better for ordinary pours, the double old fashioned can hold larger quantities for longer sips. The double old fashioned glass with a higher capacity is ideal for people who prefer to enjoy their drinks slowly. The capacity of the increased volume makes it possible to have a more free-flowing pour and creates enough space for extra ice. So your drink remains chilled until you finish without dilution. However, for classic cocktails, glassware is equally essential to the ingredients. The single old fashioned glass, called a rock tumbler, is short and makes room for simplicity. This design allows one large ice cube to be located, perfect for chilling your whiskey or bourbon. Martini, Margarita, and Other Specialty Cocktail Glasses   Specialty cocktail glasses take your mixology game to the next level. Here are a few favorites: Martini Glass: Iconic stemmed style, ideal for making classic martinis. Wide, shallow bowl to enjoy the aroma while sipping from. Sipping is easier with a ''V'' shaped bowl design. A good choice for making mixed drinks that have minimal mixers. It has a very distinctive sophistication in its classic martini presentation. Margarita Glass: The large, round bowl and broad rim create an iconic design. Visual appeal is enhanced with ample room for garnishes. Enhancing each sip with an aromatic experience. Contrasting flavor by adding a rim coated with either salt or sugar. For easy handling, even in larger sizes, the stem is tall. Nick & Nora Glass: Ideal for classic cocktails The coupe-shaped bowl concentrates aromas for a sensory experience. The delicate rim provides a smooth and elegant drinking experience. Vintage charm with functionality. Coupe Glass: Broad, round shape, unsuitable for bubbles. It is most acceptable for strained cocktails served without ice. Shape showcases cocktail color; long stem prevents warming. The unique shape adds sophistication and ensures well-balanced drinks. Flute Glass: It is ideal for champagne and young sparkling wine. Texture diffuses sunlight, creating a soft, warm glow for comfortable boardrooms and meeting areas. Tulip Glass: Wide chalice and a slender, bulbous opening. Concentrating beer aroma, the elegant and ergonomic design. A flavorful drinking experience suits aromatic beer varieties. Shot Glass: Features a thick bottom to withstand bar slamming traditions. Primarily for drinking straight liquor or "taking a shot." It often features a thick bottom to withstand bar slamming traditions. Versatile and practical, adding functionality to various beverage and culinary applications. Cognac Glass: Also known as brandy snifter or brandy bowl.  Allowing the drink's aroma to concentrate enhances the sipping experience. Fine, aged spirits can be enjoyed and savored with sophistication. A large bowl allows for easy whirling of the drink. Shorter mouths capture scents. Things to Consider When Choosing a Cocktail Glass    Choosing the appropriate cocktail glass should not depend entirely on appearance — size, materials, the quality of construction, design, and functionality all matter considerably. To make the appropriate choices while setting it up, you can consider the following factors to ensure your glassware meets the mark: Size: Correlate the glass size with the drink type to ensure an appropriate liquid–to–glass proportion. For example, a light cocktail such as Aviation can be drowned in an oversized glass. Material: Choose quality materials such as crystals for a more excellent drinking value. Crystal cocktail glasses not only dazzle with the stunning hues, but also form part of the sensory enjoyment of a cocktail. Quality: Sturdy and artfully crafted glasses significantly contribute to your barware's visual appeal and utility. Choose glasses with a very stable foundation and smooth rims for glassware. In addition, they should be well-balanced in the hand. Design: Choose glasses that not only complement the type of cocktails you're serving but also reflect your unique style. Whether your preference is contemporary or classic, great design can elevate the experience and enhance the enjoyment of your drinks. Functionality: Some glasses are tailored to particular drinks to arrive in the best state. For instance, a tulip glass flutters with the enthusiasm of sparkling cocktails, while an aromatic spirit or whiskey concentrates in a snifter. In the complex world of mixology, a glass is not just an empty container; it's one of the essential instruments for a skilled master. Equipped with the types of cocktail glasses, their features, and considerations, you can turn any drink into a masterpiece. Raise your home bar, enjoy all the subtleties that come with each sip, and let a glass be a perfect addition to your cocktail masterpiece!
The Types of Liquor Glasses to Serve Your Favorite Drink

The Types of Liquor Glasses to Serve Your Favorite Drink

The use of glassware often gets overlooked, but when it comes to enjoying beverages, the types of glasses and liquor glasses you use can really affect the enjoyment of your drink. All glasses differ, and at NUDE, we take time to ensure that our various types of cocktail glasses and daily-use glassware enhance the flavor and enjoyment of your drink. With so many different types of drinking glasses, here’s our rundown on the best types of drinking glasses to serve your favorite drinks. The Types of Liquor Glasses and What to Use Each For Snifters, highballs, flutes, coupes, and margarita glasses—it can be hard to keep track of all the different glassware types on the market. Each glass has a purpose and is designed for a reason: to serve long drinks and cocktails, sip water, enjoy a shot of liquor, or improve the aroma and taste of a fine spirit.     Why Are There Different Liquor Glass? Look behind a commercial bar, and you will find a wide range of regular, cocktail, and liquor glasses, each crafted for a specific beverage or use. At NUDE, our glassware designs are carefully researched. Each of our bar glass types is considered for its look, appeal, durability, sustainability, and ability to elevate your drinking experience. Snifters, for example, with their narrow rim and large bowls, are ideal for brandy, whereas our shot glasses are short and intended to serve neat spirits. Long-stemmed coupe and martini glasses may look impressive, but they also have a wide top that helps to keep the contents cold. Plus, their long stem adds beauty and elegance to this classic design. In essence, your choice of glass types shouldn’t be all about aesthetics. Having the right glasses for the right beverages in your home bar is best so you and your guests can fully appreciate the drinks you serve. Importance of Using the Correct Liquor Glasses Your choice of glassware matters. Using the correct cocktail glass types for the right drink or spirit improves the drink's appearance, taste, and overall enjoyment. Here are a few points to consider:     Aroma, Color, and Taste The size and shape of a glass help release the beverage's aroma, enhance its taste, and improve the vibrancy of the color. Take our NUDE Liquor Glasses as an example. This sophisticated range of lead-free crystal glasses have a simple silhouette and are exquisitely shaped to bring out the aroma and flavor of your favorite whisky, grappa, or cognac. The majority have stems to allow for easy handling, and all are transparent, so you can appreciate the color of the beverage. Regulating the Drink’s Temperature Modern glassware comes in many shapes and sizes, and what is the proper way to hold drinks when serving should also be considered when purchasing glassware. Some glasses have stems and wide bowls; others are short, stubby, or fluted in design. This helps regulate the drink's temperature, and either encourages or prevents heat transfer from your hand. For example, martinis and margaritas are served chilled, so the classic design of these cocktail glasses has a long stem and wide top so you can enjoy the drink at its best for longer. Carbonation Let’s talk about bubbles next. One of the main reasons most prosecco and champagne glasses are fluted is to help preserve the drink's effervescence. The long stems also help to keep the warmth of your hand away, ensuring you enjoy the sparkles for longer. Alcohol Content Regulating the amount of alcohol poured into a drink is essential. Glass types and designs help determine the amount of spirit or liquor poured into the drink, regulating the alcohol intake. This is particularly important when preparing cocktails using multiple spirits and mixers. Creating an Aesthetic and Emotional Experience When it comes to glassware, appearance is important! Serving a drink in the correct glass does elevate the enjoyment of the drink. By choosing your glassware carefully and opting for glasses from ranges you like, you can stamp your style on your cocktails and creations and make the overall drinking experience memorable.     Different Types of Liquor Glasses Owning a variety of glass types and barware is suggested if you want to enhance the enjoyment of the drinks you serve. Handcrafted from crystalline glass, the range includes a carafe and glass, cake dome and two serving plates which were designed to bring people together to experience culinary delights. Each piece in the range makes a bold statement whether used separately or in unison. Gravity Combining functionality with design and pushing beyond the traditional boundaries of glassware, the new cocktail glasses added to NUDE’s Gravity Collection were designed by Ali Bakova to break the monotony of everyday life and make every sip more special. The four new designs in the Gravity Collection, which evoke the mystery of space and moments when time seems to stop, offering an array of options for all tipples, including the martini, champagne, negroni, and the sour cocktail glass.
